It's All About the Attitude | Weekend Recap

Oh sweet, glorious, sunny weekend.  Why do you have to leave so quickly?  Can't you stay around for just a few more days?

No?

Ok, fine.  I'll just have to hold onto your fabulous memories then.

My weekend started off a little rocky with serious potential for a ruined Saturday.  For reasons beyond my control, and details I won't bore you with, I had The Kid all day.  For the past two years, my schedule with The Kid has been completely random.  Some days I'm done by 6, some days I'm not done until well after 10, and some days I need to stay overnight.  But the one thing I could always count on was my weekends off.  I was free to make plans for Saturday and Sunday and wouldn't need to check with The Kid's mom first.

Well, all that went out the window this weekend, and I was on Nanny Duty.  Not a big deal in the grand scheme, but I did have plans to be at the coast this weekend, so that was a bummer.  Saturday morning I woke up and looked at myself in the mirror (seriously) and gave Macey a little pep talk.

"No matter your attitude about it, today you are working," I said.  "You get to choose whether or not this day is fun, or it drags on with you both in bad moods."

So I chose fun!

The Kid and I had a great time.  We toured two Home Depots and found me a BBQ (something I've been wanting to do for a long time now) and he helped me build it.  We had lunch out, played basketball, and then he got ready for his first school dance!

Doesn't he look so handsome?!  He's only 12, and I swear he looks 15.  He rarely does his hair, and NEVER wears pants, so it was fun to see him wearing the one pair of khakis he owns.

Sunday was great too!

The morning started with a picnic brunch in Sellwood Park with one of my favorite Portland families.

Jenni made quiche, scones and iced coffees, and I supplied the mimosa makings.  It was a lovely morning of good conversation and frisbee tossing.

The rest of my day consisted of meal prep for the week, a mani/pedi treat, and cleaning of my apartment.

All-in-all a very happy, full and productive weekend.  Can't wait for the next one!

How was your weekend?  Did you do anything fun?

  2. Aww... the photo of the kid is awesome! I saw this on your IG and just loved it! Your Sunday brunch in the park looks soooo fun! What a great idea! I spent the weekend riding my bike- solo- the man had to work, then washing cars, taking my tween summer clothes shopping and making homemade ice cream sandwiches! I'd say a productive weekend :)
    Cheers Macey! :)
